Accra Hearts of Oak will lock horns with Medeama at the Cape Coast Robert Mensah Stadium in their MTN FA Cup Semifnal match on Sunday July 12.
The two teams will play each other as they fight for an opportunity to capture this year’s MTN FA Cup.
Both teams have had impressive routes to get to this point.
In the Round of 64 Hearts of Oak successfully defeated the Elmina Sharks 1-0, while Medeama overpowered Kade United by a score of 2-1.
Next, in the Round of 32, Hearts of Oak took on Bolga Man City while Medeama squared off against the Gold Stars. Hearts of Oak boasted an impressive win over Bolga Man City of 3-0, while it took penalty kicks for Medeama to secure a victory of the Gold Stars. After a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation, Medeama sent the Gold Stars home by winning in penalties 3-0.
With only 16 teams remaining in the MTN FA Cup Hearts of Oak faced off against Afienya City. Again Hearts of oak were able to outlast their opponent and won the match 1-0. In the round of 16 Medeama played the Great Astronomers, and once again it took Medeama extra time to attain victory. After regulation the match was a draw at 1-1, but Medeama successfully defeated the Great Astronomers 5-4 in penalty kicks.
Next up were the Quarter Finals, in which Hearts of Oak faced Tamale Utrecht and Medeama face WAFA. Both teams boasted impressive victories as Hearts of Oak won their match 3-0 and Medeama won theirs 3-1.
On their way to this Semi Final match Hearts of Oak have scored a total of eight goals while conceding none thus far, while Medeama has scored six goals while conceding three.
Medeama may not have the impressive stats nonetheless there are in a familiar territory as they beat Hearts of Oak in the 2013 semis to advance to the final and win the competition in 2013.
On the other hand, Hearts of Oak may not have raised the cup in a couple years but they are still the most successful club in the competition’s history.
The winner of this promising Semi Final match between Hearts of Oak and Medeama S.C. will get a chance to make the final match where they will face either Asante Kotoko or Aduana Stars.
