A Bekwai circuit court has jailed a 20-year-old farm labourer after admitting that he sexually assaulted a three-year-old girl at Manso Tontokrom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
Alhassan Jijiri aka One Way, took advantage of his familiarity with the girl’s family to lure her into his room and sexually abused her.
He pleaded guilty to one count of defilement, contrary to Section101 of Act 29/60 as amended by Section 554/94, when he appeared before the circuit court which sentenced him to 25 years’ imprisonment.
Police prosecutor, Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori said the incident happened on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at about 5:30 pm in a house in which both the victim and Alhassan Jijiri lived.
According to the prosecutor, the convict was brought to court following a complaint by the victim’s mother, Beatrice Manu, to the police at Datano in the Amansie West District.
Inspector Ofori indicated that the incident happened on the blind side of the complainant, who was preparing supper on that day at the kitchen, while the victim was playing around.
Detective Inspector Ofori said the victim’s mother claimed that after she had completed preparing the meal, she searched for her daughter but was nowhere to be found.
The victim, he said, eventually emerged from the convict’s room stark naked with whitish, milky fluid dripping from her vagina, which raised her mother’s suspicion of defilement.
The prosecutor said Madam Beatrice Manu then confronted Alhassan, and later made a report to the police, leading to his arrest. A medical form was issued to the victim for medical examination.
Inspector Ofori stated that Alhassan Jijiri admitted the offence in his caution statement, adding that he could not control himself when he found the girl naked.
After investigation, Alhassan was charged, sent to court and subsequently jailed after his trial.
