GUNA: Appoints Interim National Executives Ahead Of National Congress

The Ghana United Nations Associations (GUNA), has held its first ever National Breakfast Meeting to appoint interim National Executive Committee Members to plan and prepare grounds for the organization’s forthcoming National Congress in September 2015.

The programmewas held at the Novotel Hotel in Accra last week. The meeting being the first of its kind in the records of the association attracted a lot of dignitaries in the country. Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion including the National President of the association, Hon. Peter TenganabangNanfuri, (Member of the Council of State, former BIN Boss and IGP),the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana-H.E. Kaonu Yoshimura, The Hon. Minister of the Interior, Mr. Mark Woyongo, Justice Emily Short (former CHRAJ Boss), the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru, the Queen Mother of Aburi and AkwapemAdonteng traditional area, AwoAdwoaAmene I, Rev. Kingsley OsafoMireku, GUNA National Director of Administration, among other dignitaries and executives of the national secretariat of the association.

In his keynote address, Hon. Mark Woyongo, who also doubled as the Guest Speaker for the occasion, commended the GUNA for its tireless efforts in the promotion of peace and development in the country since its establishment way back in the 1950s.

He unearthed that, his Ministry works closely with the aims and objectives of the association. He therefore pledged to lend any support to the association in its bid to achieve its objectives in the country. He underscored that at this point of Ghana’s democracy, peace is indeed a very essential commodity that everyone should promote.

The Minister, called for unity and tolerance among all citizenry as the nation prepares towards its General Elections in 2016. He called for more effort of the GUNA and all other concerned organizations and agencies, both governmental and Non- governmental to intensify their campaigns of peace in all corners of the country to help aid development in Ghana’s economy.

The Japanese Ambassador, H.E. Kaonu Yoshimura, also on his part commended the GUNA for its effort and stressed on the need to promote and maintain peace in the country. He emphasized and maintained that, it is not possible for any country to develop either politically or economically without peace.

The chief of Labadi and the queen mother, also in their deliveries asked for peace tolerance and unity in our communities, especially among their colleague traditional rulers and their followers in the various traditional areas. They noted that little traditional conflicts could cause serious national conflicts if not controlled, as human emotions cannot be underestimated at any point in time.

The interim executives appointed are; Hon. Peter Nanfuri- National President (an automatic member), Lawyer Mrs. IreneAbochieNyahe as the 1st Vice President, Lawyer Kwesi C. Bismark, 3rd Vice, Mr. Chris Pardie, as the Secretary General, Miss Peace Kondo, Dept. General Secretary, Mr. Seth Konadu- National Projects Secretary, Rev. Dr. Laud Kumi, was also appointed as the National Publicity Officer, Mr. Charlse Nkrumah, the National President for Youth Affairs and Mr. Samuel KodzoSenyo, as the National Organizer.

All these and other members who would be appointed later to join the interim National Executive Committee of the association, shall be officially elected into office by delegates in accordance with the Constitution of the association at the National Congress upon performance.

This election would be supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana and shall be an open, free and fair elections according to the GUNA’ Constitutional requirements, after which the Committee shall be mandated as the highest authoritative body of the association in terms of decision making.

Responding to the call, Lawyer Mrs. Irene AbochieNyahe, the interim 1stNational Vice, on behalf of her colleagues accepted the task and pledged their total commitment and dedication to hard work and progress of the association. She promised that the new Committee shall be ever ready to respond to the calls its members to any official duties at any time of the day to help achieve the association’s core aims and objectives in Ghana.
