Man, 62, Rapes Woman, 90

PETER KWAKU Antoh, a 62-year-old man who is said to have unleashed his libido on a 90-year-old lady at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, is currently in prison custody pending further investigations into the allegation.

The accused person was arrested by police on June 28, 2014 after he allegedly sexually assaulted the nonagenarian in her home many times, having taken advantage of her visual and physical impairment.

He was remanded into prison custody by a circuit court in Obuasi, which did not take his plea, to reappear on July 13, 2015, even though he had admitted the offence during police interrogation.

Prosecuting, ASP Emmanuel Diabene told the court, presided over by Frank Rockson, that the complainant is a daughter of the victim (name withheld) and resides at Kokoteasua, a suburb of Obuasi, in the same vicinity with the accused person.

According to the prosecutor, the victim came to know Antoh about five years ago through one of her sons-in-law when she began to experience sight impairment and he (Peter Kwaku Antoh) offered to help her to secure NHIS card.

ASP Diabene said the sexagenarian, a driver by profession, capitalised on his humanitarian gesture to frequent the home of the victim.

One night while the victim was fast asleep, the accused person, the police officer revealed, sneaked into her room and demanded to have sex with her, but the victim protested and screamed for help.

Antoh, hell-bent on satisfying his sexual desire, jumped on the old lady and raped her after gagging her, prosecution narrated.

The court heard that Peter Kwaku Antoh thereafter warned the victim not to disclose the unlawful act, and subsequently threatened her with death.

ASP Diabene said the victim was dismissed when she told her daughters about her ordeal in the hands of the accused, giving him (accused) the leeway to further perpetrate his act.

Nemesis, however, caught up with him on June 18, 2015 at about 9:30 pm when he was caught red-handed by the complainant who had laid ambush in the victim’s room.

Prosecution said as usual, Kwaku Antoh sneaked into the victim’s room without a knock on the door, so as to outwit neighbours, and when questioned he claimed to have gone there with a new NHIS card which he could not produce.

A report was made to the police and the accused was arrested when he turned up for a decoy settlement meeting where he offered to apologise for his criminal behaviour.
