Public Relations Officer of the National Service Secretariat, Ambrose Entsiwah has denied reports that allowances for National Service personnel have been increased.
He said the reports are untrue because he has not released any document communicating any such increase.
Speaking on Adom FMโs morning show โDwaso Nsemโ, Mr Entsiwah said โit is not true that the allowances have been increasedโ.
Messages being circulated on social media messaging platform WhatsApp purport an increase in the allowances of National Service personnel from รยป350.00 to รยป500.00.
Although the NSS increased allowances last year, some Service Personnel have called for a further increase due to the current state of the economy.
But the NSS PRO says the secretariat will not issue a statement of such nature through WhatsApp.
An official statement from the NSS will have a letterhead of the Secretariat with the signature of the Executive Director of the secretariat, he said.
โSome unscrupulous persons are circulating this, it is not trueโ.
Mr Entsiwah acknowledged that some service personnel have called for an increase in the allowances and โthey have the right to do soโ but it has not been increased.
He said the Schemeโs budget can only afford a รยป350.00 allowance for each service person and until a budget that can afford a รยป500.00 increase is approved, there will be no such thing.
โFor now it is even not in our budget but if we have to, the Board Of Governors will put forward a proposal for that to be doneโ, he said.
Mr Entsiwah also denies reports that registration for the 2015/2016 service has closed.
He said the registration is still ongoing and will not close until September when postings are out.
