Ghanaian prodigy Koby Arthur has signed a two-year-contract extension with Birmingham City after protracted contracted negotiations, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 19-year-old attacker has agreed a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2017.

That ends months of speculation surrounding the Arthur’s future with Newcastle United and Southampton linked the precocious youngster and is a timely move given the fact he was set to become a free agent later this week.

Arthur has featured 14 times for Blues since being spotted playing non-league football in Northamptonshire and looked as though he had made something of a breakthrough last season.

However, after featuring in Gary Rowett’s first three matches he was overtaken by Demarai Gray, being spent on loan at Lincoln City and Cheltenham Town.

He will challenge Gray, David Cotterill and new signing Jacques Maghoma for game time in the wing positions.

Arthur was drafted into Ghana’s U23 squad by head coach Malik Jabir but he failed to travel to the West African country for any of their qualifiers.
