AGI, JICA, Plan, Academia Laud CSR Conference And Awards


Accra, Ghana. 29thJune, 2015 – Stakeholders including the Association of Ghana Industries, AGI, The Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, Plan International and academicians from the University of Ghana Business School and the University of South Carolina, USA, have lauded the Ghana Editions of the West African CSR Conferences and Awards. The Conference was held at the Golden Tulip in Accra and the CSR Excellence Awards slated for October, 2015 was launched at the same venue.

At the CSR & Community Development Conference, the Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Nathaniel Quarcoopome on behalf of the Association of Ghana Industries, said: ‘The road to inclusive and responsible business practices is a long one, but we are happy that the journey has started and society will be better for the development championed by businesses as a result of enhanced knowledge on social responsibility. We are glad to support this timely initiative.’

The Chief Representative of JICA Ghana, Mr. Koji Makino said: ‘This initiative (CSR Conference) is very important, because learning from best practices locally and around the world is one way of ensuring that Ghana achieves local impact on CSR activities from socially responsible companies. JICA is interested in the sustainable growth of Ghana’s local economy.’

Mr. Prem Shukla, Country Director of Plan International and other participants from the University of Ghana Business School and the University of South Carolina, USA, expressed delight at the spectrum of stakeholders that attended the Conference. Mr. Shukla called for close collaboration between corporate Ghana and Development-oriented agencies such as Plan international for the development and implementation of strategies for community development across the country.

Participants from corporate Ghana, business associations, local and international NGOs, Civil Society Organisations, development partners, aid agencies, regulatory agencies, academia and the media attended the Conference.

The CSR Excellence Awards seeks to identify, verify, evaluate and reward socially-responsible activities of companies in Ghana and across the sub-region, as they contribute to national and sub-regional growth, sustainability and prosperity. Processes and criteria for the Awards are transparent, consistent with international standards and modelled along the principles of the European Awards scheme. A multi-stakeholder jury from academia, media, CSOs, etc, will oversee the Awards process.
