Fake BNI Officer Nabbed

A 45 year old refrigerator repairer who posed as an officer from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to defraud victims under the pretext of selling them an auctioned Toyota Tundra vehicle has been apprehended by the Tesano police.

Suspect Henry Sowah, was apprehended on the Aburi road on Saturday June 20, 2015 by the police upon a tip off.

He is currently in the custody of the Tesano police assisting in investigations.

Briefing the DAILY GUIDE, DSP Edward K. Tetteh, the Tesano District Police Commander said the police received information from one of the victims that the suspect had collected an amount of GH¢11, 000 from him to sell to him a Toyota Tundra which was being auctioned at their office.

After receiving the money, suspect Sowah went into hiding and was never seen again.

DSP Tetteh said, the victim disclosed that it was his girlfriend who introduced suspect Sowah to him as a BNI officer who was part of auctioneers selling the said car to interested persons.

Suspect in his caution statement confessed to collecting the money but added that he gave an amount of GHC10, 700 of the money to a friend who is an Auctioneer to buy the car.

He also confessed that he was not a BNI officer.
While the matter was under investigations, another victim also reported that suspect Sowah had defrauded him using the same modus operandi.

DSP Tetteh is calling on people who might have fallen prey to the fake BNI officer’s schemes to report at the Tesano police.

Suspect Sowah, he noted, will be sent to court soon.
