Man proposes to girlfriend he’s been with since he was 10-years-old

A man from New Jersey created an elaborate wedding proposal for the girlfriend he has been dating since the pair were in fifth grade

Sam Maccarone, 27, enlisted his songwriter cousin, Matty Mac, to help him staged a music video in which he would star alongside his girlfriend, Jessica Burzichelli.

Filmed in Philadelphia during the course of one day, Jess had no idea the entire shoot was all leading up to her boyfriend asking for her hand in marriage – and was absolutely stunned when he dropped to one knee in order to pop the question.

The pair, who have grown up together, first met when they were just 10-years-old and have been head over heels in love ever since.

After graduating from the same high school in New Jersey, they went on to study at separate colleges, but remained together throughout their respective university courses, determined not to let the distance break them up.

Having moved in together in Hoboken following their college graduations, Jessica has been dropping a few hints about wanting to get engaged, completely unaware that Sam, who says he has always known the pair would be together forever, was already planning the perfect proposal.

In the proposal video, he explains: ‘Little did she know, I had been setting up a surprise for her.’

Rites of passage: Sam and Jess, 26, go way back to fifth grade. They have been at each other's side throughout their lives including here at their high school graduation

Made for each other: The couple always knew in their heart of hearts that they would end up together forgever

‘I always knew I wanted her to have something that would last forever,’ Sam told The Huffington Post. ‘And I knew no matter how I was going to do it I was going to have someone secretly there recording her reaction so we could have that forever.’

Convincing his girlfriend that his singer cousin Matty needed them to appear in his music video, Sam set out to pop the question in the most unique way possible.

Sam enlisted the help of his musician cousin Matty Mac and his filmmaker friend to help him with the project which was to shoot a music video in which the couple would appear.

Matty even penned a whole new song about their childhood sweetheart-style love affair and the video was shot around Philadelphia.

‘Matty said he would see what he could come up with,’ Sam told NJ.com.’I told him he had about a month. That was 7:30 on a Wednesday. Two hours later, he called and said he thought he had the perfect song.’

The song, called The Proposal, was written both about Matty’s personal ideas of love and about his experience of being a part of his cousin’s and Jessica’s lives.

‘I was sitting in my basement and had to put myself in a place of, how would I feel if I was about the marry the girl of my dreams,’ Mac said. ‘It helps that they’ve been together for so long and I’ve seen their relationship evolve.’

‘I knew that this was going to be a very special occasion and I would need a song that was going to live up to the feeling and emotions that would be captured in that moment,’ Matty told DailyMail.com.

‘I decided to write a song specifically for them. Once I began writing, the song just came together effortlessly within about 30 minutes. The ideas began to pour out and the song sort of wrote itself.’

Most of the video was filmed at Love Park, with the final scene shot in a New Jersey restaurant as Sam got down on one knee leaving his bride-to-be speechless.

Final scenes: The pair were caught on camera throughout the day, and the video ended with Sam and Jess at a restaurant, surrounded by friends and family members

‘You’re the sweetest, sexiest, smartest person I know,’ he says in the heartwarming clip. ‘And you’re even pretty funny sometimes. You motivate me to be the best person I can be every day. And I want to spend every day with you for the rest of my life.’

Naturally, Jess said ‘yes’, and she can then be seen pulling Sam into an embrace.

‘Everything was so normal for me, that’s why I was so taken aback when he proposed,’ she told NJ.com. ‘I was speechless and that’s so not me.

‘I wasn’t paying attention to until Matty sang the last line, “I’ve been hoping that you’ll marry me someday.” That’s when Sam got down on one knee and that’s when it hit me.’

All of their family and friends were there to celebrate the occasion.
