Editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper Ken Kuranchie says he disagrees with comments made by Radio Show host Abubakar Ahmed popularly known as ‘Blakk Rasta’ that 80 percent of Members of Parliament smoke marijuana.

He said this when he appeared before members of the Privileges Committee of Parliament probing the circumstances under which Blakk Rasta made the comments and the motive behind it.

“It is a democracy and people can advocate for a number of things but I disagree with Blakk Rasta”, Ken Kuranchie said when he was asked about his thoughts on the allegations made against the MPs.

Ken Kuranchie’s Searchlight newspaper had carried the story about the 80% of MPs smoking ‘wee’ in the June 17, 2015 edition of its publication.

He was dragged to Parliament together with Black Rasta to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for impugning the credibility of Parliament by the comments made and its subsequent publication.

But Kuranchie who sounded apologetic said his paper culled the story from Adomonline.com but added the comments were in bad taste.

The Editor added that people who have the privilege of working with a microphone should not take advantage of circumstances to make inaccurate statements.

“When you have a microphone, it is not everything you say”, he said. Blakk Rasta is also present before the committee for making the comments which is deemed as contempt of the parliamentary code.

His comments that 80 percent of MPs smoke went viral last week when an MP drew the Speaker of Parliament’s attention to a publication in the Dally Searchlight and asked that the issue be probed further.

Ken Kuranchie however says he is prepared to cooperate with the radio presenter if it turns out that his publication was inaccurate and does not reflect the real thing he said.

He added that his outfit can’t be entirely blamed because the story as published in the paper was culled from Adomonline.com.
