Fire has gutted the palace of the Gyasehene of Akyem Asene, near Oda, in the Eastern Region. The fire destroyed property worth GH¢30,000 and an unspecified amount.

He said he left to inspect the extent of flooding in the town which then was in darkness as a result of power cut, and to establish the kind of assistance to give to victims.

He said at about 7.30 p.m. while he was still inspecting the extent of flooding and related destruction, he received a message that his palace was in flames. He said he received the message not long after power had been restored.

According to him, on reaching home and seeing his bedroom and sitting room on fire, he raised an alarm for assistance, to which people responded carrying buckets of water in an attempt to quench the fire but to no avail.

He said he telephoned the fire fighters, who arrived immediately and were able to put out the fire.
