The Banquet Hall of the State House, Accra will play host to the crème de la crème of the African movie industry when the maiden Golden Movie Awards comes off on Saturday, June 27.

The event, according to the organisers, NMJ Ghana, will bring together most of the screen gods and godesses of Nollywood, Ghana and other African countries as deserving actors and actresses are rewarded for their works.

The awards scheme which was launched in February this year seeks to reward outstanding actors from six African countries- Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa for their works in the year under review.

The nominations list which was released last month had popular Ghanaian actors such as John Dumelo, Kojo Nkansah Lil Win and Majid Michel in contention for the Golden Favourite Actor Award. They will face stiff competition from Nigeria’s Jim Iyke and Alex Ekubo.

The Golden Favourite Actress category has Ghana’s Yvonne Nelson, Ama K. Abebrese, Nadia Buari, Juliet Ibrahim and Nana Ama McBrown. They are up against the likes of Tonto Dikeh and Uche Jombo, both from Nigeria.
