CANCELLATION OF BECE PAPERS A TRAGEDY

The tragedy that has befallen some 438,000 pupils who had prepared themselves for the aborted BECE examinations is most regrettable. Cancellation of five papers in the BECE era is unprecedented and requires a thorough investigation.

The involvement of the BNI and police in the exercise is most welcome. As we await the outcome of the investigation, WAEC should be more vigilant in the processing of the examination papers to prevent the recurrence of this incident.

My heartfelt sympathies go to the examination candidates and their parents. I urge the children to keep up their spirits and prepare themselves for the rescheduled papers so as to avoid any disruption in their progress towards a brighter future.
