Organizations Support IYL Conference


Four corporate bodies have donated money and items to support this year’s Africa Regional Conference and Exhibition on Light and Light-based Technologies scheduled to take place in Accra from 14-16 September, 2015 at the Accra International Conference Centre, Ghana.

Dutch & Co, GOIL, Lake Side Estate and Star Property Management presented undisclosed amount of money and some products to the planning committee towards the smooth organization of the conference.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the Minister for Education and Chairperson of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Acting Secretary-General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO, Riche-Mike Wellington said, ‘The upcoming Africa Regional Conference and Exhibition will provide a platform for companies in the area of photonics and optical technologies, including lasers in Ghana and abroad to showcase how these technologies are providing cutting-edge solutions in education, agriculture, communication, energy and health for the appreciation by policy makers and the general public.”

The conference and exhibition aims among other things at creating awareness on the potential of Light and Light-Based Technologies in solving many of the development challenges facing Africa.

The event will also promote interaction and dialogue among academics, industries and professionals in using optics and photonics concepts and adopting developmental strategies for communities with the view to enabling policy-makers appreciate the relevance for the support of science for economic advancement.

The conference is expected to attract young minds and innovators to come out with new ideas and inventions in the application of Light-Based Technologies to benefit the continent.
