Plateau State Governor, Mr. Simon Lalong, has called on the police as well as the Fulani and Berom community leaders to put an end to the incessant attacks on innocent citizens in the state.
The governor made the call Saturday in Jos, the State capital during a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of the Fulani, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Riyom, Jos South and Barkin Ladi, Local Government Areas and state Commissioner of police, Nasiru Oki.
While addressing the gathering at the Government Lodge, Rayfield, Governor Lalong expressed displeasure with the renewed violence in the state.
He, therefore, appealed to the Fulani and Berom to sheath their swords in the interest of peace and progress of the state.
The meeting came on the heels of an early morning attack on Rakung village of Barkin Ladi on Friday, which left four people dead.
The governor urged the warring factions to tolerate each other and allow total peace to prevail.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the closed door meeting, the governor’s media aide, Emmanuel Nanle, said a similar meeting between the governor and Berom community leaders will be holding soon, followed by a meeting of both warring factions.
Mr. Nanle said, “The governor is concerned with the resumption of hostilities between Fulani Herdsmen and Berom of Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas resulting in series of reprisal attack”.
According to the media aide, Saturday’s meeting created an avenue for the Fulanis to register their grievances.
