Italian-born Ghanaian attacker Emmanuel Gyasi has declared he will play for Italy if Ghana show no interest in him.

The 21-year-old, who scored a league goal in 16 appearances for Italian third-tier side Mantova, is in his native Ghana on holidays.

Gyasi who is owned by Torino came close to a debut call-up from Italy’s U20 side in October 2013 but documents and eligibility issues scampered the move.

“I did well in the lower leagues for Torino and they decided to call me up but my passport wasn’t ready because I had come down to Ghana as a kid and schooled here a bit so as a result I couldn’t play for them,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

There has been no official interest from the Ghana Football Association to get Gyasi to play for Ghana and, he says he will consider Italy if they make another approach.

“I’ll play for Italy but that will be if Ghana don’t show any interest in me. I was really happy when I got the invite for the Italian U20,” he said.

He was sent on loan twice last season (Pisa and Montova) by Torino who finished mid-table in the Serie A.
