NPP ends parliamentary polls

Accra, June 13, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially closed polls for the election of the party’s parliamentary candidates for Elections 2016 across the country in 247 Constituencies out of the 275.

The elections officially ended 1500 hours on Saturday, and counting of votes is on-going.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission.

According to NPP guidelines for the elections, agents of candidates would be allowed at polling stations to observe proceedings.

Presiding Officers in charge of polling stations would inspect the ballot papers in the presence of the agents, enter the total number, show the ballot boxes to the public to ascertain that they are empty and then place them in the open for voting.

Every voter in the queue at the polling stations at the close of polls at 1500 hours would be allowed to vote. Counting of ballot cast would start immediately after the last voter had cast his or her vote.

In a statement signed by Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, General Secretary and copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra, it said the polls were suspended in 28 constituencies because of outstanding issues.
