NLC Begs Dangote, Otedola, Other Wealthy Nigerians To Save Osun Workers From Starvation

nlc11The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has called on wealthy Nigerians including Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola to come to the aid of Osun State workers by donating food items to them because of the hardship they are presently passing through.

Civil servants in Osun have not been paid salaries now for seven months, a situation the state government blames on dwindling federal allocation.

The Osun NLC chairman, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, who made the appeal in Osogbo, the state capital on Friday, lauded the Christian Association of Nigeria for seeking food aid for the workers, adding that it would be hypocritical to claim that they did not need help from outside at this time.

Mr. Adekomi said that the situation had become terrible among the workers because they have not been paid salaries for the past seven months.

Adekomi said, “The call by the CAN that people should donate food to workers is okay. That will somehow ameliorate the suffering of our people. It is welcome. There is nothing wrong with it.

“In fact, labour unions will soon go out to solicit help from well-meaning Nigerians like Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr. Femi Otedola and non-governmental organisations.

“We will reach out to them to give us food so that our members and their families will not die of hunger. We need help! Tell me, how much can a civil servant save that will last him for seven months? Our people are hungry and we need help.

“Ramadan is fast approaching. We need food so that our members who will observe the Ramadan will have something to break their fast. Many have been undergoing compulsory fasting, but at least when you fast, you have to break”.
