GPL Match Report: Foovi Aguidi strike sinks Olympics in Accra derby

On Saturday at the Accra sports stadium on match day 17 in the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier League, Hearts of Oak won the bragging right in the Accra derby by beating Great Olympics 1-0.

The Phobians started the game as the aggressive side by dominating their city rivals; by creating all the decent chances in the game as Foovi Aguidi drives went wide.

Hearts of Oak kept the heat on Great Olympics and finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after an intelligent run from Maxwell Boakye, the latter set up Foovi Aguidi, the Togolese import kept his cool and went past one man before he planted the ball at the blind side of Richard Kingston.

The ‘Dade Boys’ failed to come to the party as the Phobians nearly doubled their lead after Foovi Aguidi 25 yard strike narrowly missed the post.

Great Olympics began the second half with an attacking mentally; as they piled countless pressure on the Phobians by Kwame Boateng leading the attack for the away side scuffed his shot wide as the home side adapted the defensive strategy which paid off as they won the Accra derby by a lone goal to nil after 7 minutes of time added on.

The win for the Phobians means, they will move up on the log sheet to 9th as Great Olympics will drop to the relegation zone.
