EC sets July 7 for Talensi by-election

Accra, June 13, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) has set Tuesday July 7, for the conduct of the Talensi Constituency in the Tongo District of the Upper East Region by-election.

The by-election followed the resignation of Mr Robert Nachinab Doameng, Member of Parliament for the main opposition New Patriotic Party.

In accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, as amended by section 3 of Act 527, the EC would hold a by-election in the constituency, a statement signed by Mr Amadu Sulley Deputy Chairman of the Commission in Charge of Operations and copied to the Ghana news Agency in Accra stated.

According to the statement, the Commission would take nominations for the said by-election on Tuesday, June 23 to Wednesday June 24, at the District Office of the Commission at Tongo from 0900 hours to 1200 hours and 1400 hours to 1700 hours.

The EC explained that nomination forms may be obtained from the district office of the Commission or at the Regional Office in Bolgatanga.

Candidates for the election shall provide two recent photographs (bust) showing the full face and both ears with red background, on the submission of their nomination forms.

The filing fee for the election is GHยข 1000.00.
All interested individuals and political parties are to take note and act accordingly, the statement said.
