Accra derby: Hearts of Oak- Great Olympics to shake the capital

The first round game between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics dubbed the Accra derby recorded one of the biggest crowds in recent times as both sides shared honours on the day at the Accra sports stadium some months ago.

On Saturday, 13th June, 2015 at the Accra sports stadium, Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics will rekindled the longest city rivalry in the history of the Ghana Premier League.

This time the Phobians will be playing at home as their hope of picking the 3 points at stake will be under severe threat due to the current strength of Great Olympics as they are yet to lose a game in 6 outings in the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League.

Hearts of Oak after their elimination from the CAF Confederation cup by Esperance de Tunis, they have not been in fine form as last Wednesday they drew 2-2 at home with AshGold in their outstanding league game and a win against Great Olympics will see them move up on the log sheet.

The deputy head coach of Hearts of Oak admits that the match day 17 league game against Great Olympics will be a difficult game but he expects his lads to carry the day.

‘It is still our wish to win the game and we will do everything within our means to win this game,’

‘Otherwise, we should forget the league title but we are still in the early stages so we will fight for [the points] and this being our home match – at least we planned to win our two home matches – it will be at our advantage. We have drawn one but this one – come-what- may-affair – we must win at all cost.’

With the Phobians targeting a win on the day, Great Olympics head coach Yaw Acheampong says their mission on Saturday in the Accra derby against Hearts of Oak is to get the 3points.

‘The first leg was goalless, but this time it will be different, our mission on the day is to pick the 3 maximum points because I have the men capable of beating Hearts of Oak at any day’.

The tie between the two biggest clubs in the capital as to break as Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics all targets a win on the day.
