Management and employees of Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd (GGBL) donated blood to support victims of last Wednesday’s flood and fire disaster.

The donation drive, a direct response to the call by the Ministry of Health for the general public to voluntarily donate, is part of GGBL’s overall response to support victims of the disaster that struck the nation last week.

Officials from the National Blood Service Ghana (NBSG) pitched camp at the company’s premises to undertake the exercise on Tuesday.

Preba Greenstreet, Corporate Relations Director, GGBL, in a brief remark prior to the donation exercise said, ‘In commiserating with the victims of last Wednesday’s disaster, our employees are voluntarily donating to support the national effort.

‘Today’s exercise in our Achimota Brewery will be replicated next week at our Kaasi Brewery in Kumasi and sets the tone for our commitment to donate twice a year to the NBSG’.

In addition to actively donating, Greenstreet said GGBL will also support the NBSG monthly for the next 12 months with its Non-Alcohol products to refresh donors of the monthly donation drive led by the NBSG.

‘GGBL is working with the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry in other relief efforts, details of which would be shared at a later date,’ she said.

Dr. Paul Mensah, Head, Southern Area Blood Centre of the NBSG said, ‘We are happy that GGBL, as a corporate body, has responded to the national call by donating and committing to support us with some of their products to refresh voluntary donors over the one year.

On behalf of the management of the NBSG, he expressed appreciation to GGBL for their support, urging other well-meaning corporate organizations to emulate this example.

‘I want to use this opportunity to encourage all Ghanaians to become active donors to ensure the National Blood Centers have adequate stock all the time,’ Dr. Mensah stated.
