Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah fears CAS ban could affect summer move

Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah admits the protracted legal tussle between Evian TG and Udinese has wrecked several prospective transfer opportunities.

The 24-year-old has been handed a four-month ban after the Court of Arbitration for Sports affirmed that he signed for the French club as a free agent in 2011 while being under contract with Udinese.

The ban however does not take effect until the start of the new football season.

This means Mensah will be unable to play competitive football for both club and country at least four months into the new football season.

Mensah who is now available on the transfer market as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with relegated Evian TG admits the protracted legal battle put off several suitors.

‘I think so but this issue with my club was still pending and even clubs that came around was told to wait for a while,’ he told Allsports.com.gh .

‘I feel my progress has been hampered by that. I feel my progress has been in the balance.’

The ex AshantiGold defender is currently with the Black Stars team for their opening 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius on Sunday .
