The dismissal of the fraud cases against former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, by a High Court in Abuja, has been described as a vindication of his innocence.
A media aide to the former governor, Doifie Buokoribo, who made this known in a Thursday, said the dismissal of the case by the trial judge, Justice A.R Mohammed, is a clear indication that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was only trying to frustrate the political life of Mr. Sylva.
Mr. Buokoribo said, “All the multiple charges by EFCC against Sylva and his associates had a single aim: to persecute, intimidate, and harass him, and in so doing, destroy his political career”.
The media aide said there is jubilation in the former governor’s camp because at last, justice has been served in the case.
“We are very much relieved that all the attempts by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan to keep Sylva away have failed”, Mr. Buokoribo said.
It would be recalled that a High Court sitting in Abuja had dismissed the case against Mr. Sylva by the EFCC on Wednesday.
The court accused the EFCC of abusing court process.
