Lawyer points out solutions to Ashanti illegal mining problem

Legal Practitioner; Evans Amankwah, is worried about the spate of illegal mining in the Ashanti region and says the time has come for the practice to be nipped in the bud.

The lawyer, in an interraction with rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi, reckons one of the problems may be that people have a hard time distinguishing between small scale mining which could be legal and illegal mining and calls for more education on the subject. He beleives residents need to be taken through the process of regularizing

their operations.
He tells rawgist.com there is a lot that would accrue to government from mining if proper education and training on mining is facilitated in the region.

He called on mining companies to endeavor to rehabilitate lands disturbed by mining activities and also rebuked land owners who took huge compensations for their lands after they are leased for a period only to squander it.
