Humiliation: Satellites crash out 3-0 to Mali

Ghana have been knocked out of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup following a humiliating 3-0 loss to West African rivals, Mali on Wednesday.

Coach Sellas Tetteh made three changes to the side that beat Panama 1-0 in the last group game but the Black Satellites were largely ineffective and were dominated throughout by Mali.

The Malians opened the scoring on the back of their dominance and never looked back, adding two goal of the tournament contenders from Gbakle in the second half to to seal a well deserved one-sided victory.

Mali who qualified for this stage after finishing only third in the group stage, become the first team to confirm their place in the last 8 where they will now await the winner of the round of 16 clash between African champions, Nigeria and European super power, Germany on Thursday.

It’s the first time Mali have gone beyond this stage since their 3rd place finish at the 199 tournament in Nigeria when Seydou Keita and Mamdou Diarra were in the team.

For Ghana, it is the worst performance by the Black Satellites in the history of this tournament of which the 2009 champions have never been eliminated before the quarter finals in six previous attempts.
