Gyan Bemoans Accra Pitch Quality

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has lamented over the quality of the Accra Stadium pitch. The Al-An striker indicated that the state of the grass did not help matters when Ghana’s Black Stars engaged their Togolese counterparts in an international friendly on Monday.

He said after the game, ‘The field didn’t help us, but we did quite well. The coach told us to do more passing so we build our confidence ahead of Sunday’s game.’

Gyan lasted less than 30 minutes in the Ghana-Togo game but demonstrated gross dexterity. The Black Stars won 1-0.

In 2008 when Ghana hosted the rest of Africa, former Ghana trainer Claude Le Roy criticized the quality of the pitch, saying the grass was too long.

But this time, Green Grass Technology Chief Executive Frank Boahen gave the assurance that his team will put it in good shape before Sunday’s Nations Cup qualifier.
