Let’s go Ghana! Suspended Asmah urges Satellites to beat Mali

National U-20 team defender, Patrick Asmah is confident his teammates will edge Mali to qualify for the quarter final of the FIFA world youth championships.

Ghana must beat Mali to book a June 14 last 8 date against the winner of Thursday’s round of 16 clash between Nigeria and Germany.

The 19 year old BA Stars defender is banned for Ghana’s second round game of New Zealand 2015 against the West African rivals at the Wellington Regional Stadium on Wednesday for accumulated yellow cards.

But Asmah believes the Black Satellites have enough arsenal to outgun Mali when the two sides who exchanged victories in two clashes at the Africa qualifying tournament in Senegal in March, meet competitively for the third time this year following Mali’s 1-0 group stage victory and Ghana’s sweet 3-1 revenge in the match for third place.

‘I’m very sad that I will not play this game but I know there are good players to step in. I hope to come back strongly to help the team because it is our dream to win this trophy,’ Asmah told Goal.com.

‘We played this same team at the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal in March and we lost the first game but managed to beat them in the third place game so we can defeat them again,” he reflected.

Asmah added: ‘Now we need to show them that we are the better side and we will approach the game with all seriousness.

‘I have heard a lot about this fixture and that is not a surprise to me because the two sides are playing very well in the competition.” Follow @thedonplato
