Late call-up: Richard Ofori excited with debut Black Stars chance

Richard Ofori is relishing the opportunity to earn a first senior Ghana cap following his late call-up to join the national team in camp ahead of Sunday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius in Accra.

The Wa All Stars shot stopper has been called by Black Stars coach, Avram Grant as a late replacement for Spain based Razak Braimah who has been ruled out through injury.

“I am very excited and I thank God for this opportunity,” Ofori told Allsports.com.gh exclusively moments after the confirmation of his debut senior call-up.

With Braimah out and Ashantigold goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda increasingly under pressure for inconsistency in addition to Ernest Sowah who is relatively also a novice at this level, there is every chance Ofori could even earn a shock starting place against Mauritius.

And the former Black Satellites and Meteors goalkeeper is fired up to grab any opportunity with both hands.

“I am always ready to start,” he said simply to alert the Black Stars technical team.

On the game itself, Ofori is desperate to help the national team cruise to success on the opening match day in search of qualification to the next Cup of Africa Nations.

“The game is very important to Ghana because it’s our first game and we must win but it’s more important to me as a footballer because this is my first call up and things need to go well for me and Ghana,” he said. Follow @thedonplato
