Government has announced a GHc50 million assistance package for victims of Wednesday’s flood and fire disasters.
More than 100 people have been confirmed dead following an explosion at a GOIL filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah circle in Accra after hours of heavy downpour which also flooded the capital.
Announcing the package at the Flagstaff House Thursday evening, Mr Mahama said government will take drastic measures to ensure that water ways are cleared in the city in order to avoid a recurrence of the tragedy.
‘…Our current priority now is to save life and prevent any further suffering of our people.
‘But beyond that, we will take the tough measures that are necessary to prevent such disasters from occurring in the future,’ he stated.
The President also declared three days of national mourning for the victims. The National flag will fly at half-mast beginning Monday.
