Love in air: Watch Panathnaikos fans get crazy for Essien at airport

Michael Essien arrived in the Greece capital, Athens on Sunday morning to a rousing welcome by fans of Panathinaikos, the Greek Super League side which have since concluded a 2-year deal with the Ghanaian midfield enforcer.

Even though it was as as 4 am, Panathinaikos fans were at the airport in their numbers to welcome their new player, singing and chanting Essien’s name even as they couldn’t see him in the car which drove him away.

The 32 year old watched Panathinaikos’s 2-0 victory over PAOK Salonika on Sunday before signing a two-year contract reportedly worth €2mon Tuesday.

Essien joined as a free agent following the conclusion of an 18-month spell at Milan having played for Chelsea between 2005 and 2014 with a one-year alone at Real Madrid in-between.
