Government committed to welfare of people in Zongo Communities

Navrongo, June 3, GNA – Mr Mark Woyongo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central, has assured the people in the Zongo communities across the country that government was committed to their welfare.

The MP who is also the Minister for the Interior, gave the assurance during the inauguration of the Navrongo Zongo Caucus in Navrongo.

He stated that government was fully aware of the huge population in Zongo Communities, and would, therefore, do all it could to ensure that residents got their share of the national cake.

‘A part from the fact that the Zongo Communities constituted the huge constituency of the country, it also constituted the largest constituency of the National Democratic Party,’ he indicated.

The MP said it was in this regard that government would continue to ensure that the Zongo Communities got their share of the national cake, and mentioned government’s annual facilitation of the pilgrimage of Moslems to Mecca, and the construction of the National Mosque, as typical examples of government’s support.

He said the completion of the Tamale International Airport this year would help reduce the burden of Moslems from the three Northern Regions traveling to Accra to continue their hajj to Mecca.

The MP stated that as part of government’s policy to help address the numerous challenges confronting the Zongo Communities, he had over the last couple of years spread development projects evenly in the Navrongo Central Constituency, to cover all sectors of the communities, including the Zongo Community.

He mentioned the construction of boreholes, the road networks and drainage , schools , Community Health Based Planning Compounds (CHPs) and the recent award of a 10-seater Water Closet Toilet, as some of the projects which had been spread evenly in his constituency,

‘Two major water projects valued at eight million dollars, and 36 million Euros will soon be executed as a permanent solution to the perennial water problem in the Municipality,’ he added.

While admonishing the Zongo Communities to ensure that their children attained formal education, the MP entreated them to co-exist peacefully, and to eschew tendencies such as filth and crimes that were likely to mar their reputation.

Mr James Zuugah Tiigah, the Upper East Regional Minister, stated that President John Mahama and the NDC Government would continue to roll out more developmental programmes and policies, to help improve upon the living standards of the people

The Coordinator of the Zongo Community, Abdulai Mumuni, stated that the duties of the caucus would include working hard to ensure that the party became victorious in the 2016 elections, and said they would embark on door to door campaigns, and also explain the party’s programmes and policies to the constituents.

The occasion which was under the theme: ‘Unity Stability and Development,’ attracted large crowd from the Zongo Communities, including the Regional and Constituency Executives and party supporters.
