The Australian High Commission Accra has welcomed home 39 Ghanaians who have recently been studying in Australia under the Australian Government’s Australia Awards Scholarships Program. Sixteen (16) Ghanaians completed up to two years Masters degree and 23 have completed short courses in the focus sectors of agriculture, mining, and public policy.
About 100 Ghanaians, also Australian alumni, joined the festive celebrations at the Australian High Commissioner’s Residence on 28 May. “The Australia Government Awards Scholarship program to Ghana is an investment in the development of Ghanaian men and women leaders, and a valuable investment in the future of Ghana,” the Australian High Commissioner, Ms Joanna Adamson said. “Through the Alumni network, we are keen to maintain contact and hear about achievements of Awardees back in Ghana”, she said.
Since 2010, two hundred and seventeen (217) Ghanaians have received an Australian Awards scholarship to undertake their post-graduate degree, Masters, (agriculture only) post-doctorate or short course study at a tertiary institution in Australia.
These future leaders are now employed across a cross-section of government ministries and civil society. On return home, Ghanaian awardees are encouraged to join the Australia Awards Ghana Alumni Network where they can share experiences with each other and stay in contact with Australia.
Awards alumni as well as other Australian alumni help build the human and technical capacity of local institutions in Ghana. They help to maintain valuable links between Australia and Ghana and enrich the relationship between the two countries.
The Australia Awards Scholarships program aims to provide high quality tertiary education and training to talented Ghanaians who will be in a position on their return home to make an important contribution to the development of Ghana.
The Awards program offers Masters level and short course awards.
