The Kumasi Institute of Technology, Energy and Environment (KITE), a non-governmental organization, has donated solar lanterns worth GHï¿ 1,500 to the Kaneshie Polyclinic in Accra Wednesday as part of its corporate social responsibilities.
The donation was in response to a Joy News report revealing that health officials at the Polyclinic had to rely on mobile phone torchlights to deliver healthcare to patients during power outages due to a breakdown of the Polyclinic’s stand-by generator.
Handing over the lanterns, Executive Director of KITE, Mr. Ishmael Edjekumhene noted: “We are aware that with the ongoing load shedding, most institutions, whether educational or health do struggle if the national grid is not on. They have to buy diesel to run their generator sets. So we thought that we could come in and provide some solar rechargeable lanterns which you can use when you don’t have lights. That’s the main motivation for our coming to make this donation.”
Dr. Amoh Mensah, Medical Director of the Polyclinic accepted the donations on behalf of the health centre. “We thank KITE for donating these solar lamps to us. It will go a long way to help in these days of black outs and load shedding,” Dr. Amoh Mensah intimated.
“It will really help us in efficient health care delivery,” he added, “We are also taking this opportunity to appeal to other donors to also come to our aid. We are very grateful for what you have done. And we promise to also give quality health care to the people of Kaneshie and its environment.”
