Happy FM, UT Life Insurance Support Korle Bu And 37 Military Hospital

Accra, May 26, 2015: Happy 98.9 FM, the multiple award winning sports station in collaboration with UT Life Insurance has organized the 5th blood donation exercise in an effort help replenish the blood banks of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) and the 37 Military Hospital.

Held at the premises of the UT Life Building located at Kisseiman, over 300 pints of blood was drawn from volunteers from all walks of life. This included students of the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (PRESEC), workers of both Happy FM and UT Life Insurance, workers of GIZ as well as numerous members of the general public.

Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah, General Manager of Happy FM revealed, “This year, we got even more people turning up than we did last year and we are very happy about that. The blood banks at Korlebu and 37 are always going through serious challenges, trying to keep up with the demand for blood from patients. Happy FM is therefore committed to supporting them and helping to replenish their stock, by using such events to educate and encourage more and more people to donate blood and in so-doing, help save lives.”

Mr. Akrumah went on to say “We thank everyone who made the effort to come and donate to support this course, and all our supporters who have helped make this event such a success. Our Special thanks go to UT Life Insurance, without whom, this event would not have been possible”.

The exercise lasted for about 9 hours from 7am to 4pm. Activities included background checks, free screening and health checks for participants by qualified medical professionals from KBTH and 37. Medical tests that were run on the participants included BP, HB Levels, Blood Sugar levels as well as transfusion-transferable diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B and C.
