Ghana to face Zambia in COSAFA Cup plate semifinals

The local Black Stars will face Zambia in the 2015 COSAFA Cup “plate” semifinals despite losing to Madagascar in the quarterfinals match on Monday.

The Plate competition which is part of the COSAFA Cup, was introduced in 2013 to allow teams who lost in the quarterfinals another opportunity to continue playing in the competition.

Coach Maxwell Konadu’s squad lost out to Madagascar 2-1 in their first match of the tournament, after the Islanders grabbed a late winner.

Zambia, who will be Ghana’s opponents in the Plate semis were also beaten on penalties by Namibia in the quarterfinal stage.

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa are also set to face Malawi in the other plate semifinal match.

The winner of the COSAFA Cup 2015 Plate semifinals will appear in Friday’s final at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.
