Black Satellites arrive in New Zealand

Accra, May 26, GNA – Ghana’s Black Satellites have arrived in New Zealand, ahead of the 2015 World Youth Championship (WYC), commencing at the end of the month.

The Satellites, bronze medalist at the African Youth Championship (AYC), arrived on Tuesday following impressive pre-tournament preparations in Australia, where they posted inspiring results in friendly matches despite losing 0-1 to Portugal in one of their warm-up games.

The team including 21 players, the technical staff , plus some management committee members arrived in the early hours of Tuesday, to a traditional welcome by the host four days to the opening of the competition of 24 teams.

Ghana, housed in Group B alongside Austria, Argentina and Panama begins her campaign on Saturday, as the team seek to reclaim the trophy won by the 2009 group at the tournament hosted by Egypt.

Coach Sellas Tetteh has set at least a semi final finish for his charges in New Zealand. Tetteh who lead Ghana to claim Africa’s first gold at the 2009 edition reckons winning the ultimate will not come cheap but remains confident the team will survive the journey.

Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal are Africa’s representatives for the global gathering slated from May 30-June 20.
