Robbers Strike At West Hills Mall

Two persons sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds at West Hills Mall, Weija, when a gang of armed robbers attacked some shoppers in broad daylight yesterday.

The robbers, according to an eyewitness account, holding a pistol and other sophisticated weapons, raided the mall around 2pm.

Police report indicated that three persons had been arrested in connection with the robbery attack, including a fake soldier, Prince Nyarko, 28 years.

The other suspects are Sulley Jerry, 24 and Sulley Stephen, 20, a shoe maker.

As at press time yesterday, theย police had mounted a manhunt for the four remaining suspects who were believed to be at the premises of the mall.

The gang of six robbers reportedly entered the Silverbird Cinema at the mall where they fired gunshots and attempted to rob movie watchers of their belongings.

Items retrieved from them included an XD 45 (ACP pistol), a pair of scissors and nine rounds of live ammunitions.

According to the Accra Regional police spokeswoman, ASP Effia Tengey, the two were arrested when they went to hide themselves in the roof of the engine room.

One of the suspects, according to the police spokeswoman, shot the two victims at the Silverbird Cinema.

The victims were rushed to the Ga South Hospital at McCarthy Hillfor treatment.

The robbers, who were arrested by the Formed Police Unit in collaboration with Papa 103, a private security organisation at the mall, are in custody at the Weija police station assisting in investigations.
