OTUMFUO OSEI-TUTU II has tasked the newly-appointed Ashanti Regional Minister, Anarfi Mensah, to remain humble, shun partisan politics and work collectively with the people to develop the region.
He said, ‘Mr Mensah is like the president of the region as he directly represents the president’, therefore, developing the region for the people to experience it in their lives should be his prime motive.
Otumfuo was speaking when Mr Mensah was introduced to him as the new regional minister by the Ashanti Regional REGSEC at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Friday.
The Asantehene charged the new minister to use his reputable office to attract developmental projects to the area, notably roads, health, education, among others, so that residents of the region would experience improvement in their lives.
The Asante Monarch admonished the minister not to use his position to lord over the people, reminding him that ‘your position is not a permanent position.’
Otumfuo also urged the new minister to work to ensure that a maternity block project at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) which started 40 years ago is completed by the government to boost healthcare at KATH
He expressed his delight about how DCOP Kofi Boakye had worked tirelessly to boost the security situation in the region, charging Mr Mensah to throw his weight behind the security agencies to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the area.
Otumfuo assured the new minister of his support so that his tenure would be a huge success, stating that his prime agenda as the Asantehene is to see the region and Ghana develop for the people to enjoy.
Present at the meeting were DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, REGSEC members and some prominent traditional leaders from the region.
Mr Mensah, in his succinct remarks, pledged to consult the Asantehene all the time for his wise counsel on key issues, policies and programmes that he as a minister would initiate in the region.
