Why Residents of Kaduna, Kebbi, Two Other States Are Experiencing Severe Power Rationing – KEDC

PHCNThe management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KEDC, has blamed the rationing of power amongst its customers, which has become severe lately, on low energy allocation from the national grid.

The Head, Corporate Communication of KEDC, AbdulAzeez Abdullahi, in a press statement issued in Kaduna yesterday, revealed that the allocation has been drastically reduced by almost half.

He disclosed that “the company, which franchise area covers the four North West states of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara, received an allocation of 160 megawatts (mws) of electricity yesterday and has been receiving between 150 to 200mws in the past two weeks. This is a far cry from the about 700mws the company needs to satisfy the energy requirements of its customers in the four states”.

It would be recalled that last week, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Mr James Olotu, reported that the nation’s power generation capacity took a nosedive following vandalism of the gas pipeline to 10 NIPP power plants.
