Target: Celtic step up chase for Jonathan Mensah despite ban

Scottish Premier League champions Celtic have stepped up their chase in the transfer signing of Black Stars player Jonathan Mensah.

Hoops manager Ronny Deila is keen to sign the Evian Thonon Gaillard defender despite Mensah set to miss the start of next season through suspension.

The player was handed a four-month ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sports relating to his transfer move from Udinese to Evian in 2011.

Jonathan Mensah will be a free agent this summer and an agent source close to the Ghana international said:

‘Celtic are still interested in Jonathan despite this ban by the CAS.

‘They want to have him, so this ruling is just a temporary setback. We will continue with the talks.’

Jonathan Mensah will be available for selection for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
