It will be suicidal to vote against Minority Leader – Napo

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South is warning of dire consequences if Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is voted out of Parliament.

According to Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, a vote against a leader who is championing the cause of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament is a vote against victory in 2016.

He was commenting on the brouhaha that has characterized the NPPโ€™s parliamentary primaries slated for June 13, 2015.

The Minority Leader in Parliament is facing strong competition from four others for the Suame parliamentary seat.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who has been in Parliament since 1996 has risen from the ranks to the current position but his hold to the seat has been threatened by the four aspirants considered equally capable of winning the seat.

One of them, a financial consultant Kwadwo Boateng Genfi thinks the Minority Leader has had his turn and should give way for fresh ideas to develop the constituency.

But Mathew Opoku Prempeh on Asempa FMโ€™s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday said the Minority Leader has an unfinished business in Parliament.

He revealed that Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu aside representing the NPP in Parliament also represents Ghana on anti-corruption committees in the sub-region.

Dr Opoku Prempeh indicated that the NPP cannot afford to lose such an experienced man in Parliament.

The Manhyia South MP said he is campaigning vigorously for his Leader because he believes in his ability to ensure victory for the NPP in 2016.

Napo called on the party leadership to as a matter of urgency take a second look at the electoral laws to protect sitting MPs.
