Ex-footballer dupes Ashimilowo’s church out of 5 million

A former footballer,Richard Rufus has duped the Kingsway International Christian Center,headed by Nigerian pastor Matthew Ashimilowo out of £5 million.

Rufus, a former defender with Charlton Athletic became a member of the church after claiming to be ‘born again’ and was entrusted by the church to invest the said amount on it’s behalf according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The investigation into the fraud is being carried out by the Church Commissioners as a separate investigation from other debts amount ion to almost £18 million owed by Rufus to over 93 investors.

Rufus has missed a number of court hearings saying ‘God is my only judge’.
