Foundation for Women and Children Affairs (FOWCA), Young Heart Foundation (YHF-Ghana) and Barber Shop @PoloCity in partnership with the National Blood Service has organised a blood donation exercise at the Madina New Road, Rawlings Circle to contribute to saving lives in the country.
The exercise, which took place at the premises of Young Heart Foundation (YHF) on Saturday, May 16, 2015, was dubbed “Donate Blood to Save a Life”.
Mr. Karim Philips, the president of YHF, said the target was to collect 125 pints of Blood for the National Blood Bank at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Mr. Philips said whiles helping save lives, the blood donation exercise could contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals of reducing child and maternal mortality in the country.
“The blood donation exercise is part of the foundation’s aim of helping save lives. Before the blood donation exercise, we have organised a two-week community health screening programme with over 500 turnouts and a breast cancer awareness programme all aimed at helping improve the health conditions of our people”. He said.
On her part, Ms. Jemilatu Mamshie Bawa, president of the Foundation for Women and Children Affairs (FOWCA) appealed to Ghanaians to support blood donation campaigns to help improve stocks of blood at the National Blood Bank.
