Anderlecht declare Frank Acheampong unavailable for Ghana U23 selection for Olympic Games qualifier

Anderlecht coach Besnik Hasi has declared the club will not be releasing winger Frank Acheampong to the Ghana U23 team for their Olympic Games qualifier this weekend.

The 21-year-old is one of the few foreign-based players called up by coach Malik Jabir to augment his squad for the qualifier against Congo.

Acheampong had earlier cast doubts over his availability for the game at the Accra Sports Stadium due to the heavy schedule of his club.

Anderlecht coach Besnik Hasi has now confirmed he will not release the player for the Olympic Games qualifier.

“That became clear last weekend when Franck Acheampong was called up for the U23 of his country Ghana,” Hasi said.

“Anderlecht gave the player, at the request of Hasi, not free.

“Otherwise Acheampong would normally seen this week leave.  The decision of the team is sure to understand.”

Acheampong has increasingly grown to be an integral member of the Anderlecht team and will be heavily relied upon for games against Kortrijk and Gent on Thursday and Sunday respectively.
