A teen girl was beaten to death after she fell in love with a man from a different town, police in India said. Gaya Police said that they have arrested one person and are searching for another 14 after the lovers were beaten to death and burned by relatives as a crowd watched. Read more as reported by Scoop:
25-year-old Jairam Manjhi and his 16-year-old girlfriend Parvati Kumari were abducted by their relatives at a train station as they tried to flee on Wednesday morning.
They were brought back to town under heavy security, beaten to death and then burned together. Manjhi, who has three children with a different woman, had been in a relationship with Kumari for six months.
Nobody in town tried to stop the attack on the couple, and police learned about the murders only when someone from a neighboring town reported the crime. Kumari’s aunt was arrested, and police are carrying out raids in search for 14 other people, some of them relatives of Kumari.
