New Positions Are Not Your property – Mahama To Ministers


President John Dramani Mahama has charged newly appointed Ministers and Deputies to eschew arrogance in the performance of their duties and focus to on working to improve the lives of the citizenry.

‘Let me congratulate you this morning on your swearing in and say these are not times for ceremonies and so I expect you to go straight to business.

Governance is a continuum and so when you are brought in, you are required to play your best to the best of your ability and be focused on how you can change the lives of our people,’ the President told the newly appointed government officials.

The newly appointed Ministers are Alex Segbefia ;Minister of Health,Peter Anarfi-Mensah; Ashanti Regional Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Yaw Adusie ;Deputy Minister of Water Resources ,Works and Housing, and Gilbert Adjei ;Deputy Minister for Defence.

The President stressed that the positions given to the new Ministers ‘are not property’ but an opportunity to ‘serve at the pleasure of the people of Ghana’ , adding that they can be ‘shifted or moved elsewhere’ just as they had been ‘appointed today.’

He posited that the appointment offers an opportunity for them to contribute to the ‘process of uplifting the quality of life of our people and growing our economy.’

‘Today is an opportunity for you to showcase what you can do and contribute to the agenda for transformation in this country.’

The President also asked them to be humble and modest in the discharge of their duties as they form an ‘important format of social democratic governance.’

‘Too many people have complained of arrogance in some of our appointees and we need to remember that we serve at the pleasure of our people.’

We won’t let you down On behalf of his colleagues, the newly appointed Minister of Health Alex Segbefia promised work hard.

‘The three oaths makes it quite clear what our position is and what our duties are.We are very much alive to the fact that we have 18 months to an election and therefore we have unlike some of our colleagues have to hit the ground running’

He declared their intentions of interacting with the Chief of Staff and other members to know their responsbilities, saying ‘we intend to do just that and we will be interacting with the Chief of Staff and other members and we know our duties and our responbilities.Once again we thank you for this opportunity and we hope that God being on our side, we will not let you down.’
