That Was For Him, Gatlin Sends A Statement To Usain Bolt After Winning Diamond League Opener

Former sprint king Justine Gatlin ran his personal best and the world’s fastest time of the year (9.74 seconds) in the Diamond League opener in Doha, Qatar on Friday.

Gatlin opened a gap between second placed Michael Rodgers (9.96 seconds) and Keston Bledman (10.01 seconds) of Trinidad and Tobago.

“That was for him, referring to Usain Bolt, Gatlin wax lyrical. “I just wanted to go out there and put down a good time. I know I had to go out and make a statement tonight. That’s what my coach told me to do,” Gatlin said.

In the women’s 200 meters, Allyson Felix of the United State of America ran 21.98 seconds to win the race.
