Presidential support: Stephen Appiah invites Prez. Rawlings for Testimonial

Former President, Jerry Rawlings is the latest dignitary to be invited by former national team skipper, Stephen Appiah to his Testimonial match slated for the Accra Sports Stadium next month.

A host of international footballers, past and present are expected to descend on the Ghanaian capital in the last weekend of June for the game in honour of the former Hearts of Oak, Parma, Udinese, Brescia, Juventus and Fenerbahce playmaker.

But Appiah is not leaving out Ghanaian bigwigs after getting the support of also former President, John Agyekum Kufuor barely a week ago.

On Wednesday, the former Black Stars captain paid a courtesy call on another former Ghanaian leader, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings to formally invite the former army officer to the testimonial match on June 27.

Mr. Rawlings wasted no time at all in heaping praises on Stephen Appiah for the former footballer’s much heralded modesty, selflessness and commitment to the national cause.

“I feel indeed humbled privileged and honoured for your visit here today,’ Mr. Rawlings said.

‘You are one of the people that have enjoyed fame and fortune but you still have maintained your humility,’ the former President added. Follow @thedonplato
