Yendi (NR) May 13, GNA – The eight -member Governing Board of Yendi College of Health Sciences, have been sworn into office by Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna, Northern Regional Minister at Yendi.
The members include, Mr Awalu Bawa Principal of the college, Most Reverend Bishop Vincent Sowah Boi – Nai, representing the Local Christian Council, Mr Sarfo – Agyapong Katanka, representing the Municipal Assembly, Chief Kamal Deen Shahadu, Dagbon Traditional Council, Alhaji Iddrisu Adams, Regional Coordinating Council and Mr Alhassan Shani Mahama, Ghana Education Service Yendi.
Dr Robert Kuganab – Lem is the representative for University for Development Studies and Dr Jacob Mahama, Regional Health Directorate.
Alhaji Muniru- Limuna said the overall policy objectives of Government is to upgrade the health training institution to tertiary institutions that award academic and professional diploma’s and degrees into international standards.
He said to achieve this; all aspects of training institutions must be strengthened and supported to function effectively, particularly governance and administration of the schools.
He said in this light every training institution must have a governing board that would oversee management and ensure that the right things are done.
The College was established in 2007 as a health assistant training school to train and enroll nurses to augment the shortage of health care professionals, particularly nurses.
Alhaji Muniru said the target was to train about 8,000 enrolled nurses nationwide but the college has since enrolled 25,000.
